Provenance Is Part of Value
For ruby, sapphire, and emerald especially, origin can significantly affect a stone's market value and desirability - a Burmese ruby or Kashmir sapphire commands a different conversation than a stone of otherwise identical specs from elsewhere. Origin also carries a story: the mine, the region, sometimes the sourcing conditions. We ask every seller to declare origin honestly, and treat it as core gemological data, not a marketing flourish.
